Soy Wax vs.Paraffin Wax

We’ve made no secret of the fact that when we started the Home County Candle Co. almost two years ago we were complete candle novices. However, we’d had our idea, we were passionate about it and we were determined to make it work – so we read and we read and we read, anything candle-related that we could get our hands on!

The biggest minefield we came across was what wax to use for making the best candles. I was immediately surprised to realise that the black soot I’d noticed inside my candle glasses in the past, and on my walls on occasion, were nothing to do with heat from the flame, but were in fact to do with the type of wax the candle was made from. In short, candle wax is a BIG deal, and so here are our reasons for choosing soy wax:

1.      Soy wax candles have a cleaner burn.

Unlike alternatives, such as paraffin wax, soy wax is non-toxic, so it doesn’t release toxins into the air as it burns. It also produces far less, if any, soot, so you’ll be able to reuse your candle glasses afterwards, and your nice clean walls and ceilings will stay just as they are!

2.      Soy wax is a natural, sustainable source.

Soy wax is created using pure soy bean oil, which is a natural, 100% vegetable, renewable source. It is also biodegradable and vegan friendly. What’s not to love?!

3.      Soy wax candles burn more slowly.

This is because of the cooler burning temperature of soy wax, meaning you get more for your money with a soy wax candle!

4.      Soy wax candles have a great scent throw.

Because soy wax candles burn more slowly, fragrance is gradually released, creating a more pleasant atmosphere than an immediate hit of strong scent which doesn’t last.

We hope this helps – but if you ever have any questions about anything candle or wax related please do not hesitate to get in touch!
